Alvin and I got quite a scare the other day.
Before ang kwento, here’s an outfit I wore a couple of days ago.
I’ve had that dress for the longest time. Dalaga pa yata ako niyan. I can’t bear to part with it because of the flowy fabric and heller, ang daming roses sa strap. Ang KSP ng dress and it’s so me.
Anyway, back to my scary kwento.
Last Thursday, I was at Enderun Colleges to attend an event. I cannot even remember when was the last time I attended an event so I was quite excited. I was already at the place a little past 5pm even though the event was still at 6pm. I came from work so I put on my “event make-up”. Around 6pm, just before I was about to meet Cai, Anika called me.
ANIKA (crying): Nanay I fell and I have a big bukol! It’s so big! And I am so scared that you will get mad at me!
After telling her that I’m not mad, I asked her what happened. I couldn’t understand what she was saying so I talked to the yaya. Anika was making ice popsicles daw in our kitchen. Natapon. The yaya told her not to move because she will get a mop to wipe the floor. Eh makulit. She went to the sink, slipped and banged the back of her head on the floor. Ang laki daw ng bukol.
I asked the three important questions. Did she lose consciousness? No daw. Did she throw up? No daw. Nahihilo ba siya? No daw.
Okay. I can calm down a little. I told her to put ice on it and call me if she feels dizzy.
I called Alvin and then left the event that was just about to start.
I arrived home and found Alvin and Anika sitting in our living room. Anika had an ice pack on her head. Kinapa ko the back of her head and felt the largest bukol I’ve ever felt in my entire life! Pinandilatan ko si Alvin and said, “Let’s go.”. We took her to Asian Hospital to have her checked. I’m not taking any chances. Nakakatakot pag-back of the head yung bumagok. I remember the two times we were in the hospital because Anika bumped her head, the doctors said na mas scary pag sa likod ang tama kasi mas malambot na part of the head yun.
When the doctor saw her, she did some tests. She asked her questions about what happened before she fell. She made Anika follow her fingers. She made her squeeze her fingers. She made her raise her hands. She made her stand up on one foot. She used a flashlight and checked something sa eyes. Okay naman lahat. The doctors did not recommend for a CT scan anymore kasi they limit the CT scans on kids. Pagneccessary na necessary lang daw. Xray na lang ang gagawin to check if there are fractures in the head.
Thank God wala.
We went home after that with instructions and bilins from the doctor. I had to wake up Anika every three hours to check na hindi siya magconcussion.
She’s doing fine now. Magulo na ulit. When Faye messaged me how Anika was, I told her naku, these are the times na dapat paghandaan niya. Kahit anong ingat natin sa kids natin, shit happens. So talagang dadaanin mo din sa everyday prayer.
Alam niyo ba, earlier that day, I was so agitated. I didn’t know why. Hindi lang ako mapakali. And then ayun nga, that happened.
I have not told you about this yet yata but remember when Anika fell from the soccer goal post? An hour before she fell, I was thinking na sunduin siya. Sabi ko bakit ba hindi ko na sunduin eh pauwi na naman ako? I said to myself wag na lang. Antayin ko na lang siya sa house. Minutes after, she called that they were taking her to the clinic na.
Grabe.
Eto pa.
Si Anika kasi madalas magnose bleed. Do you know that when we wakes up in the middle of the night, bago pa niya ako gisingin to tell me that her nose is bleeding, automatic nagigising na ako? It’s as if I know that something’s wrong with her even before she tells me about it.
I seriously believe in mother’s instincts talaga.
Do you have the same kinds of experiences?
